Proximity suppression
Quiet alerts when you're already at the baby
When you get up to tend to your little one, you don't need your watch buzzing about the same cry. Proximity suppression senses when you're near the hub and quiets your follow-up alerts — so you're not double-woken while you're already there.

It's on by default. Here's what you're looking at:
PROXIMITY DETECTION
Proximity Detection
Quiet alerts when a caregiver is at the baby
No quiet zone set — alerts won't be quieted yet
- Proximity Detection — leave this on (the default). Turn it off if you'd rather receive every follow-up alert, even while you're with the baby.
- Set your quiet zone — this is the part people miss. The toggle on its own does nothing. Until you measure a quiet zone on your Apple Watch, no alerts are quieted, and this screen will say so.
There's no distance setting any more. Older versions asked you to guess a range in feet, then estimated the rest — but walls and furniture make that guess unreliable, and different watches read Bluetooth differently. Your watch now measures your actual room instead.
How: setting your quiet zone
Do this when your baby isn't sleeping. It takes about a minute, and you only do it once.
- Go to the farthest part of the baby's room from the hub — the spot where you'd still want alerts quieted.
- Stand where you can see the hub, with nothing between you and it — not even your own body. Face it, and keep your arm clear of your side.
- On your Apple Watch, open Dozzi (not during a monitoring session) and tap Set Quiet Zone.
- Press and hold the screen for each of three short readings, shifting your feet a little between them.
If it tells you the signal is too weak, you're most likely standing behind something — or the hub is inside a cabinet or drawer. Try again with a clear line of sight.
Not for everyone: shared rooms and open-plan homes
If you sleep in the same space as your baby — room-sharing, a studio, or an open-plan floor — leave proximity quieting off. The quiet zone would take in your bed, so alerts could be silenced while you're asleep. In those setups you'd hear your baby directly anyway, so there's nothing for Dozzi to route.
On your watch: the proximity ring
During a cry, a colored ring appears on your watch, telling you whether you're close enough for Dozzi to quiet your follow-up buzzes.
Walk closer →green. Step away →yellow.
Green ring
You're near the hub. Follow-up buzzes are quieted.
Yellow ring
You're too far. You'll still get every alert.
No ring? That's normal — the ring only shows while someone is On Duty for a cry and your watch is checking your distance. During calm monitoring there's no ring.
Good to know
• Proximity only quiets follow-up buzzes — the first alert for a new cry always comes through.
• It works across caregivers: if your partner is the one at the baby, your buzzes can be quieted too.
• Turning your own proximity off means you'll still be told when a partner is present — it just stops your watch from reporting your position.
